Victims' Resources

Welcome to the S.T.O.P. - Safe Tables Our Priority Victims' Resources pages. This section is devoted to connecting with other victims, their experiences and resources they have identified. If you are looking for more information on foodborne illness in particular, please see our Foodborne Illness Information section.

These pages are organized as follows:

  • What to Do If You Think a Family Member Has a Foodborne Illness. Here S.T.O.P. supplies information on what to do if you believe a family member has a foodborne illness, including how to begin an investigation of the source of the illness and steps to take to prevent one family member from infecting the others.

  • Press Contact Permission Form. S.T.O.P. is frequently contacted by members of the press, including print, radio and television, who want to interview victims of severe foodborne illnesses, including but not limited to campylobacter, cryptosporidium, cyclospora, E. coli O157:H7, Hepatitis A, Listeria, Salmonella, Shigella and Vibrio. S.T.O.P. has found that victims' stories play a key role in bringing about change in government policy and ensuring that these incidents are not needlessly repeated. If you are willing to share your foodborne illness story with the press, please fill out this form.

  • Personal Stories and Testimonials. This section describes the horrendous experiences many of our members have endured as a loved one developed devastating complications from foodborne illness. If you are a relative or friend of foodborne illness and have a story that you would like to have posted at the site, please send it to us at feedback@stop-usa.org. Stories may be edited for clarity and fact checking.

  • Long-Term Health Implications of E. coli O157:H7. On October 7, 2000, S.T.O.P. hosted a major conference on this important topic in Seattle, Washington. This section includes detailed transcripts and slides of presentations given by major medical researchers in the area of long-term health consequences from Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome.

  • Professional Resources. This section contains names of individuals and organizations with legal and paralegal experience in foodborne illness. While S.T.O.P. does not endorse these individuals or organizations, we list them here as a service for victims. S.T.O.P. members who pursued wrongful death or personal injury lawsuits against food providers recommended the listed individuals to S.T.O.P.

  • Victims' Frequently Asked Questions. S.T.O.P. maintains a victims' hotline at 1-800-350-STOP. In this section, we cover some of the questions that are asked most frequently on our hotline. For other frequently asked questions related to foodborne illness, see the Foodborne Illness Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Research Programs Seeking Participants. This section is still under development.

If you cannot find the information for which you are looking, please contact the S.T.O.P. hotline at 1-800-350-STOP or e-mail us at feedback@stop-usa.org.
