MS. ORRBINE:
Our controls were children who had been admitted to the same hospital as their matched HUS child for at least five days of treatment for either an appendicitis, cellulitis, fracture of the femur, osteomyelitis or pneumonia.
We selected these diagnoses because they had a length of stay that in most cases was comparable to those children with HUS and thereby controlling for behavioral changes owing to the hospitalization, itself. And those issues have come up several times through the various speaker's discussions today.
