Eligible controls were excluded
if they had a previous diagnosis of HUS, chronic
renal insufficiency, history of mental
retardation, neurological abnormalities chronic
illnesses associated with learning disabilities,
and again no learning disabilities or attention
deficit disorder identified before their acute
hospitalization.
