DR. MAUSETH:
Now, this goes through the
basics. There are a number of different
studies, but the frequency of diabetes in
follow-up you can see goes anywhere from 16 to
1.48 percent. And I would -- there are a
couple of things that are different about
different studies, one is the length of time we
follow a patient.
The usual time that you see the
onset of diabetes in these patients is usually
in the relatively early phase, but I think as we
follow patients longer and longer what we're
going to see is that there are going to be more
-- their pancreas has obviously had some kind of
irritation and some kind of damage so that in a
high percentage of the patients we may see
more subtle types of diabetes occurring
mainly when they grow or gain weight or get
bigger. And in those patients we will need to
follow them closely.
