      Gb3 is also called CD77, and so part of the pathology may lie in the fact that verotoxin can act as an immunosuppressant. We showed this some 10 years ago that verotoxin oblates human B cell but not T cell function in vitro. So it's a B cell inhibitor. One of the characteristics of VT induced HUS as opposed to other bacterial toxin induced diseases is the lack of immune protection.
