DR. LINGWOOD:
This is VT1 staining of human
colon. And what you see here, these circles
here and they do not stain with VT1. You see
some brown coloration here, which are the
submucosa, which are blood vessels in the GI
tract, but the epithelial cells that are lining
the human GI tract, they do not have the
receptor.
So there's an anomaly here.
The cattle have the receptor. They don't suffer
from the disease. Humans don't have the
receptor. We do suffer from the disease.
