DR. ROCK:
What is this von Willebrand
factor? Well, it's a glycoprotein which is
stored in the vascular endothelium in granules
called Weibel - Palade Bodies. It's also found
in platelets, but it does not appear to be
particularly released from the platelets in these
high forms during stimulation.
In the plasma it consists of
lower molecular weight forms which even after
immediate release into the circulation are
further cleaved into a variety of subunits of multimers.
