MS. ORRBINE:
The supervising psychologist, and
there was a supervising psychologist who was a
site investigator at each of the sites, was
responsible for monitoring the consistency as
well as accuracy of the assessments and provided
appropriate clinical feedback and follow-up to
all the families.
The research assistance at each
site extracted pertinent clinical information and
interviewed the parents for demographic data,
birth history, growth and development, schooling.
We looked for things like central nervous system
symptoms during the acute illness of HUS. And
we graded those on a severity scale.
Other clinical indicators of
interest identified before the study were the
peak creatinine concentration during the acute
episode of HUS as well as the number of days of
dialysis.
