What we've done here is taken a
kidney sample, frozen kidney sample of an adult,
- HUS is primarily associated with young
children, and 90 percent of the cases are under
three and the other -- the other cases are
usually in the elderly.
Now we're looking for Gb3
expression here in the kidney. And what I'm
showing here, these positive green areas, are
staining of proximal and distal tubules here in
the tubules within the adult kidney.
But you see these black holes,
here and here and here, these are the glomeruli
of the adult kidney. So they do not express
the receptor in adults.
