It can result in a variety of
effects. And it's also reflected, I believe, in
this chart which is the -- the outcome of 0157
infections whether -- I'm not going to go
through this -- but what I'm saying is I'm sure
all of you are aware everyone who has a
verotoxin producing 0157:H7 infection does not
develop HUS.
Why is that? What I would like
to say is that one of the reasons is the
differential expressions of the receptor with
relation to the lipid structure of the Gb3
molecules in the relevant tissues.
And this is the same, this is
before, showing that most people recover from
VTEC and only a few, five to ten percent,
actually go onto develop full blown HUS.
