      Again, GFR is our most accurate measure of actual renal function. This is the best measure of how the kidney is doing its job. There are a variety of methods for measuring GFR: iothalamate, insulin, clearance of creatinine in the urine, and radionucleotide studies are all used.
      It's relatively time consuming to measure a GFR. It may require anywhere from two to three hours to 24 hours and usually requires an IV line.
