DR. ROCK:
In concluding my talk this
morning I would like to remind you that we have
quite effective therapies now in TTP/HUS, but
it's necessary to start those therapies very
early, the minute we hear of the patient with
this disorder.
Nonetheless, it continues to
have significant mortality, a death rate of 20
or 10 percent in people who are previously quite
healthy, suffer acute insult, and develop a
microangiopathy is not acceptable in today's
world. We have to work very hard at that to
resolve this. I will remind you that relapse
occurs in 35 percent of the cases and the
occurrence of that relapse interval is variable.
So patients have to be involved in
self-monitoring and work with their doctor to let
them know of changing signs. Thank you.
