DR. BRANDT:
Now let's discuss what goes wrong in the kidney during HUS? We will look first at the cell and organ level. The structural picture of what goes wrong is called pathology. The functional aspects of what goes wrong is known as the pathophysiology; I'm mentioning these terms in case you come across them. What happens at the patient level (in physical exams and blood or urine tests), we call the clinical picture.
