Summer 2002 Internship Openings





Online Outreach Specialist 
Mission: Build S.T.O.P.’s online outreach systems in order to increase public knowledge about food safety and support a national grassroots network of activists. Strengthen S.T.O.P.’s member communications through innovative e-mail, interactive website, and other online technologies.

Objectives: Collaborate with professional web design team to update S.T.O.P.’s website in order to better educate the public about food safety and support a grassroots network of activists. Develop and manage e-mail “instant response” activist list and alerts.  Help to create and administer fledgling bulletin board. 
 Time: 30 hr/wk flexible, mid-May through August 
Stipend 
 

Membership & Outreach Assistant:
Mission:  To increase local and national awareness of S.T.O.P. and of foodborne illness; to increase S.T.O.P. membership and build S.T.O.P.’s active network of food safety advocates and educators. 

Objectives:  Create local and national awareness of food safety and S.T.O.P. by creating and coordinating distribution of educational materials throughout the country.  Craft and distribute public service announcements and press releases and work with the media to place stories. 
Time: 20-30 hr/wk flexible, mid-May through August 
Stipend
 

Topic Researchers:
Mission:  Inform S.T.O.P.’s work on various topics regarding causes, health implications, public policy and industry response surrounding foodborne pathogens such as E. coli, salmonella, listeria, and BSE.

Objectives:  Research foodborne illness issues and related public policy. Develop publishable summaries, bullet points for S.T.O.P. advocates, and materials for in-house research. Collect S.T.O.P. press clippings and statements and develop in-house archive and resource library. 
Time: 25 hr/wk flexible, mid-May through August
