Nancy Donley

Board President and Spokesperson

Nancy Donley is recognized as a leading proponent of improvement in both government and private food safety efforts since the death of her six-year old son Alex in 1993 from consumption of E. coli O157:H7-contaminated ground beef. Alex was her and her husband’s, Tom, only child. Ms. Donley works in a volunteer capacity for S.T.O.P.—Safe Tables Our Priority and has served as its president for over 10 years. She has done extensive advocacy work on behalf of the organization and has been featured in numerous magazine articles, newspaper articles and television interviews in efforts to increase awareness about the risks of foodborne illness. Nancy served on the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection from 1996-2002. She has received numerous awards for her advocacy efforts. She has a B.S. degree in marketing from DePaul University and resides in Chicago where she works as a real estate broker for Koenig & Strey GMAC Real Estate.

Michael Scarpone

Board Chair

Michael is a nationally known not-for-profit consultant working with over 75 organizations such as the American Lung Association, American Lupus Foundation and United Way. Prior to his consulting business, he served as the Executive Director of the American Heart Association overseeing the Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont offices. In addition to chairing the board of directors, Michael heads up the Nominating Committee. He currently resides in Kittery, Maine.

Laura Day Lucy

Board Secretary

Laura came to S.T.O.P. after surviving a near-fatal bout with E.coli as a college freshman in 1993. Since joining the organization, she has been active in advocacy, victim assistance, and communications. Laura has presented testimony to Congress and the USDA and has interviewed with numerous media outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post and CBS Evening News. Laura holds an M.B.A. from Georgia State University and a B.S. in Marketing from the University of Alabama. She has served as the Board Secretary for S.T.O.P. since May 2000. Laura lives in Destin, FL and works for Florida's Great Northwest.

Eric Juzenas

Board Treasurer

Eric received his law degree and master’s degree in Environmental/Occupational Health from the George Washington University. He has a B.S. in Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently he is Chief of Staff to Commissioner Michael V. Dunn at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in D.C. Prior to working for the Commission, Eric was Deputy Chief Counsel for the U.S. Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee where he covered food safety, animal health, pesticide, dairy, research, commodity market and biotechnology issues for the Committee. Before working for the Committee, Eric was Acting Director for Scientific and Professional Affairs and a Health Policy Analyst for the American Public Health Association. Eric lives in the Washington D.C. area.
Greg Howard
Greg is a political veteran with more than twenty years experience in media outreach, grassroots organizing, and advocacy. He has been an associate partner at The Aker Partners, a senior executive at Fenton Communications, communications director to Representative Eliot Engel (D-NY), and a senior analyst at The Rendon Group. He has also worked in the New Hampshire and Wisconsin state legislatures and as director of government relations for the New Hampshire Association of Commerce and Industry. Greg became involved with S.T.O.P. while working on its behalf at Fenton Communications. After leaving Fenton, Greg has provided pro bono public relations support, helping S.T.O.P. gain placements in a number of major media outlets. He also served on S.T.O.P.’s Development Committee. Greg lives in Brunswick, Maine and works for Mayr Communications.
Pamela Berger
Pam came to S.T.O.P. seven years ago after the premature birth of her daughter due to listeriosis. She earned her BA at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has a Master of Public Health degree, specializing in Maternal and Child Health and a Master of Social Work in Healthcare from the University of California-Berkeley. She spent the last six years working with seniors and their caregivers but recently made a decision to focus greater attention on her private psychotherapy practice, and she currently resides in New York.
