About the Speaker

In 1999-2000, Ms. Orrbine was the National Facilitator of the proposed Canadian Institute of Health Research for Maternal, Child and Youth Health and played an integral role in development of this large multidisciplinary, national consortium.

In 1998, she co-founded,the Child and Youth Clinical Trials Network (CYCTN) at the CHEO Research Institute. As Director of the CYCTN, she continues to maintain a strong role as a hands-on-research practitioner, broadening the scope of clinical research into the maternal, child and youth health sectors nation wide. In 1997, she was appointed as a Lecturer (VPT) with the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Ottawa.

As Associate Director of the Canadian Pediatric Kidney Disease Research Centre (CPKDRC), from 1985-1998, she facilitated clinical research programs establishing a multidisciplinary research network in Canada and abroad. Since 1987, she has been an investigator on over 30 successful grant applications and has co-authored 3 book chapters and 18 publications.

In 1985, she co-founded the CPKDRC. She is the author of 4 medical handbooks, and was the recipient of the Gold Medal Award in 1984 in recognition of the handbook entitled "Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome ?You and Your Child. "

In 1982, she established the Minimal Lesion Nephrotic Syndrome Registry at the Hospital for Sick Children, and volunteered as a Community Program Coordinator for the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

Between 1971-1975, Ms. Orrbine began her career in Psychiatric Nursing and worked in the areas of acute and chronic care and public health and community medicine. She received the Life Governor's award, for outstanding achievement in nursing in 1971.
